Profile

The chair took the lead in the application of 10 externally funded research projects. The ongoing applied research in the field of product and process design helps companies to stay competitive in a global market place.

The focuses on research for a successful Systematic Engineering Design and Product Development process, where the chair develops new tools and improve existing tools in the area of Rapid Prototyping and 3D-Scanning. A rather small and not continuous research subject is also in Design for Recycling with special attention to sandwich structures. Within the college of Engineering the chair offer the following lectures and laboratories to the students and for a continuing Engineering Education: Undergraduate lectures and laboratories ("Vordiplom")- Engineering Design and Graphics, Analysis and Design of Machine Elements; and Graduate lectures and laboratories ("Hauptdiplom") - Systematic Engineering Design and Product Development Design with plastics (optional) Concurrent development methods (optional).

Technical Construction / Methods of Construction

- Development and enhancement of the principles and methods of engineering design

- Analysis of the procedures of brain-storming, concept development and product design

- Determination of principles of the geometry of products

- Analysis of the use of Open-Source-Ideas in product development

Application and effective combination of new tools and technology in product development

Rapid Prototyping:

- Analysis of the application of different Rapid-Prototyping-Systems for the manufacture of models and prototypes, as well as their use in the evaluation and optimization of various constructions and their aptitude in following processes

3D-Digitalization:

- Analysis of the application of technology in three-dimensional registration of physical models and subsequent surface reconstruction during the creation of digital models as an integral part of reverse engineering, 3D-CAD-Modeling

- Integration of CAD-programs in the construction process, in particular, the analysis of improved possibilities of product specification and data exchange
